A Mexican and American actress and producer, Salma Hayek Pinault was born Salma Valgarma Hayek Jiménez on September 2, 1966. Both the romantic drama El Callejón de las Milagros (1995), for which she was nominated for an Ariel Award, and the telenovela Teresa (1989–1991) served as the foundation of her career in Mexico.
Her roles in movies like Desperado (1995), From Dusk Till Dawn (1996), Wild Wild West (1999), and Dogma quickly helped her make a name for herself in Hollywood (1999).
Hayek was raised in an affluent, devout Catholic household and decided to attend the School of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau, Louisiana when she was 12 years old. She was given a dyslexia diagnosis at school.
She studied international relations at the Universidad Iberoamericana where she attended college. Hayek revealed, albeit not for a long time, that she formerly lived in the country illegally in an interview with V magazine in 2011.
