Duchess Kate wants to see the Statue of Liberty & the Rockettes while in NYC

Everyone is getting geared up for Duchess Kate and Prince William’s trip to New York, which is only days away now. I think they’re going to be in America for less than 72 hours, but I’m looking forward to lots of costume changes and hopefully some great photo-ops. William’s schedule is packed, and he’s even making a day trip to Washington. Kate’s separate schedule is a little bit lighter, and I’m hoping that her people schedule some sight-seeing or even, yes, some shopping. People Magazine’s “source” claims that Kate is just dying to check out the Statue of Liberty!

When Princess Kate and Prince William arrive in New York City Dec. 7 for a three-day trip, they’ll embark on a hectic schedule that leaves little time for sightseeing. Still, a friend of the royal family tells PEOPLE, Kate, is hoping to catch some of New York’s top tourist attractions. “Somebody told me that Kate would like to see the Statue of Liberty or the Rockettes while she is here,” the friend says.

Soon after arriving at their base at the swanky Carlyle hotel on the city’s Upper East Side, Kate and William will attend a private dinner with the leading lights of the Royal Foundation, before a packed day Monday that ends with a trip to Brooklyn to watch a Brooklyn Nets basketball game. Neither Kate nor William, both 32, have been to New York before. R. Couri Hay, a New York society publicist, predicts Will and Kate will cause quite a stir in the Big Apple.

“She is so relatable, but has that glamour and sparkle,” Hay tells PEOPLE. “They will create a frenzy that could match Princess Diana’s [past] visits.”

R. Couri Hay must be BFFs with Will and Kate’s new American PR guy, right? I’m always suspicious when I read those kinds of quotes. Anyway, I hope Kate does get to check out the Statue of Liberty. People Mag says that one of their first stops is going to be to Ground Zero, although I’m kind of doubting that they spend hours at the memorial, you know? Oh, and People confirms: Prince George is not coming. As I said, they’re probably worried that George would punch Mayor De Blasio in the face.

As for protocol when us Yanks meet Will and Kate, People Mag has another article about how they prefer to be addressed (sir, ma’am, Your Royal Highness), but sources also say they’re not sticklers for protocol. Which is good news, because I doubt anyone is going to be bowing, curtsying or using the proper titles. They’ll be lucky to get, “YO, WAITY!! HEY, BALDY!” Speaking of, Time Magazine had a convoluted write-up about how the American press treats royalty (like a version of celebrity) versus how the British press treats royalty (derision, humor). I’m not sure what the author’s point is?

Last thing: some downmarket tabloid claims that Kate is at war with Duchess Camilla! Apparently, Kate and William are largely avoiding the Queen’s Christmas festivities because they don’t want to be around Camilla. Kate and Camilla have apparently been fighting for “months” and “it’s gotten so bad lately that the Duchess can’t stand to be in the same room as Prince Charles’ wife.” Kate cannot stand the “toadying” behavior of Camilla towards the Queen. As in, Camilla is sucking up to the Queen and Kate thinks it’s gross. Hm… I’ve always thought that Kate and Camilla get along pretty well, so I don’t know what to tell you.
